A leader in the compact pickup truck segment for years, the Toyota Tacoma continues to adhere to the principles of ruggedness, durability, style and versatility. As long as it follows those guidelines-which it should, barring some hostile takeover of the Toyota company-the Tacoma will carry on winning awards and fans alike. It is Recommended choice. It's every bit as good as the Ranger in daily use, just a tad more expensive. It comes with rear-wheel drive or a four-wheel drive system that must be disengaged on dry pavement but has low-range gearing. Toyota offers the Tacoma as a two-door regular-cab, an extended Xtracab model and a crew-type Double Cab with four conventional side doors. Double Cabs have a three-passenger rear bench seat; Xtracabs have two forward-facing rear jump seats.
2006 2007 Toyota Tacoma is a 2- or 4-door, up to 5-passenger compact pickup, available in 8 trims, ranging from the Regular Cab to the PreRunner Double Cab V6. It's closest competitors include the Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab 2WD, the Ford Ranger Super Cab 4x2, and the Nissan Frontier 4X2. Base models lack air conditioning, but that can be added from the options list. In fact, pretty much every feature that you can conceive of as necessary to a compact pickup truck can be found on the list. Uplevel V6 models feature a Limited Package. It includes such things as chrome power mirrors, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player and color-keyed bumpers and grille. Toyota offers several option packages on the Tacoma, such as the SR5 and Limited packages, that include a variety of exterior trim upgrades and functional feature improvements. In addition, there is an extensive list of post-production options available including side-steps, a tonneau cover, truck bed shells, 5-spoke alloy wheels, and stereo components.
